Penta-Fold Card

So I don’t think that “Penta-Fold” is the proper name of this card, but it sounded good to me so I’m sticking to it.  What do I mean by a Penta-Fold Card?  Let me show you…

So you see this card is folded like an accordion in five.  Each section is it’s own separate vignette completing a larger picture. I’m a huge fan of Precious Moments characters.  They’re so cute!

I made this card for my hubby for Father’s Day.  It was supposed to my how my son sees his daddy and how he wants to be just like him.  I know cute right?  So now that Father’s Day is over, my hubby wants to frame it and put it up in his study (which is what I had planned for this card to begin with but it’s nice that he suggested it too).

So Father’s Day is over, but these little images would work for Birthday Cards, Bon Voyage Cards, Sport’s, Recitals, Grad so many options, so instead of sending you to a internet search I’m sharing these images with you.  They are all free coloring pages, that I’ve searched for and you can download them and color them in with fancy markers (like me) or Photoshop them or use Paint.  Whatever, go crazy!  Just click the image and you’ll be taken to Picasa where you can download and save the image to your computer.

Enjoy and I would love to see the projects you’ve made!!

Accordion Flowers

Picture1Picture2
So as I promised in my last post, I have a tutorial on how to make the flower that I have on the cover of my journal.  I call them accordion flowers but that isn’t a technical name so you can call them whatever you like. (If you want to see a more recent use of this type of flower you can check out this post too)

The Tutorial (if you're having trouble reading it, just click on the image for a larger size)

This part of the tutorial is much like my post on napkin flowers, it’s just made with tissue paper instead of napkins and is slightly smaller.  Keep reading if you have no idea what I’m talking about…

My Journal Makeover

My family and I love traveling.  Ever since I was a kid every year there was some place we’d get to go.  Sometimes it just took a days drive to get a warm lake, sometimes we’d get on a plane for a months visit with family in Europe, other times it was a road trip into the states and no matter where we went my mom always had her little journal.  Mom always had her little journal on her trips, still does actually, jotting down things down about our day, with notes on things to see and do, things to not do, and where all the money was going!  Then the next time we’d be planning a trip mom would pull out her journal and we’d have something to reference to make our next trip even better.

Well lucky me I married a man who has the travelling bug.  We love to take trips together and now I have taken on mom’s tradition of journal writing for our own little family.  We recently took a trip to the East Coast and I was in need of a journal.  I came across a hard cover notebook that my hubby bought for himself and never used.  It was rather plain and ugly but immediately I had a vision so I helped myself to it and turned it into my new journal.

Here’s my little project:

I had so much fun with this.  It’s just different layers of cardstock (the first layer wraps around the cover to the inside to give a finished look), with stamps and embossing.  I added buttons, a stamped butterfly and an accordion flower (watch my blog for a tutorial) as my simple embellishments, but my proudest moment is how I covered the ugly spiral of the notebook.  The folded tissue paper was perfect to cover the spiral and was soft so that I can still open the notebook all the way around and not worry about wrecking it.

I can’t wait to give a few more journals a makeover!  They’d make smashing gifts don’t ya think?
